Frequency of splicing variants in all Gossypium allopolyploids. Splicing variants found from cloning PCR amplified cDNAs and displayed as a percent of the total number of clones obtained from each species. For the “All” category the splicing variants are displayed as a percent of the total number of clones obtained for all species combined. Exon stands for exon deletion and Intron denotes an intron retention. The asterisk on EXON 429–435 stands for unknown, since the PCR product ended at nucleotide position 435. AD1-AD5 denote different polyploid species in numerical order: G. hirsutum, G. barbadense, G. tomentosum, G. mustelinum, and G. darwinii. CenH3 protein secondary structure is aligned to the nucleotide positions of the cDNA below.
