Ruthenium red staining of seeds from the glcat mutants and WT. All glcat higher-order mutants exhibited less seed mucilage content compared to glcat single mutants and WT. Seeds for each genotype were first imbibed in 1 mL water for 1 h with gentle shaking and subsequently incubated with 1 mL 0.01% ruthenium red for 0.5 h with gentle shaking. Seeds were ultimately rinsed with 1 mL water three times and observed by light microscopy, N = 30, Scale bar = 500 μm
