Nitrate-dependent gene expression. Seedlings were nitrogen-starved for 2 days and resupplied with 5 mM nitrate or 5 mM KCl as a control for 2 h. Total RNA was extracted from roots at 0, 0.5, 1 and 2 h after treatment and subjected to qRT-PCR analysis. A SlNLP genes; B nitrate transport- and metabolism-associated genes.
