Chlorophyll fluorescence-related parameters used to determine differences in photosystem II (PSII) activity between the resistant line L693 and the susceptible line L661 following Pst inoculation and after heading. a, Values for the maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII (F v /F m ); b, the efficiency of excitation capture by the open PSII reaction centers (F’ v /F’ m ); c, the photochemical quenching coefficient (qP); d, quantum yield of photochemical energy conversion in PSII (ΦPSII); e, quantum yield of regulated non-photochemical energy loss in PSII (NPQ); and f, quantum yield of non-regulated non-photochemical energy loss in PSII (NO) in wheat flag leaves. The parameters ΦPSII, NPQ and NO were derived from averages of related parameters according to a previously described method [36]. The disease had fully developed at heading, and 10 plants per genotype were used for the measurements. Bars represent the standard error, and significance was determined using independent sample t-tests. Asterisks represent significant differences as follows: **P ≤0.01, *P ≤0.05, and Ns for no significant difference. Raised asterisks or NS represent the differences in gene expression between L693 and L661 at each time point. The asterisks or the Ns label on the trend line represent differences in gene expression between two adjacent time points in the same genotype
