Example of phenotypic division into four contrasting classes, the first division being in relation to the luminosity (L*) of the seed at harvest (light × dark) and the second, in relation to tolerance to post-harvest seed coat darkening (slow × regular darkening). The genotypes MRSMG-Madrepérola, IAC-Alvorada, TAA-Gol, and IAC-Ybaté were selected to represent the phenotypic classes of Light Slow Darkening, Light Regular Darkening, Dark Slow Darkening, and Dark Regular Darkening, respectively
